About

About

The WebSight Observatory of the Department of Economics, Management and Statistics of the University of Milano-Bicocca was founded in 2024 thanks to the prestigious funding program Departments of Excellence 2023-2027 of the Italian Ministry of University and Research.

WebSight adopts an innovative approach based on monitoring the activity of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises through unconventional data, such as company websites, integrated with offline information.
Its researchers, experts in advanced economic and statistical models, are able to explore and interpret complex data with precision and expertise. The synergy with the Datalab at UniMiB allows the Observatory to manage web data efficiently.

WebSight intends to build a hub of skills and best practices that can spread a new point of view on business economic analysis.

Research

The WebSight Observatory focuses on monitoring the economic activity of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through the analysis of their digital footprints. A digital footprint is a complex network of digital data generated, published, and shared online, including websites, social media, and other digital platforms. A holistic and in-depth understanding of these footprints improves the ability to forecast business performance and development strategies.

Leveraging advanced computational tools, WebSight integrates online data with information from company financial statements to develop robust and reliable interpretative models.

The Observatory’s research activities are divided into two main areas: the economics of innovation and the prediction of corporate insolvency.
